What to check when a Krillion answer is not accepted

An answer can fail a validator for more than one reason. Inspect the question and reference before deciding what the result means.

Start with the exact condition

Copy the wording into your own reasoning. Which type of thing does it request? Which condition narrows that type? A correct fact about your candidate can still be irrelevant to the requested category.

Consider our original exercise asking for an egg-laying mammal. A duck lays eggs, but it misses the mammal condition. The useful correction is to check both properties, rather than remembering only that the answer was rejected.

Separate a missing entry from a contradiction

The creator acknowledges that valid answers can be missing from the original accepted set. A rejection alone is not proof of factual error.

Our practice makes this distinction explicit. An accepted outcome matches a named catalog entry. A documented mismatch matches an exclusion we have sourced. An unknown outcome matches neither. We do not silently turn every unfamiliar name into a false answer.

  1. Read the condition again.
  2. Open the supporting reference.
  3. Check whether it confirms or contradicts your candidate.
  4. If the answer remains plausible but missing, send a correction with the prompt ID and a source.

Check names without guessing at autocorrect

The original FAQ explains that aliases can affect autocorrect. Our independent practice uses only explicit aliases. It normalizes letter case and spacing, and it does not guess at spelling.

Try a familiar name first when a source provides several forms. If a form you use is absent, compare it with the accepted names shown after feedback. A scientific name is accepted only where the exercise lists it. A similar-looking word is not enough.

Use a reason that describes your experience

In local review you can mark a knowledge gap, misread condition, spelling difficulty, time pressure, or another reason. These are your own labels, not conclusions made by the app.

For an unknown outcome, avoid assuming a knowledge gap before checking the reference. You may know a valid answer that our list has not included. Leave the reason unset if you do not yet understand the result. On your next attempt, reread the same limiting word before you search your memory. That gives the review label a concrete purpose.
